How to Get Rid of House Mice Permanently!
For those that have house mice, you are probably about at your wit’s end. You want these creatures gone and
you’ve probably tried just about everything. While it can certainly be difficult to get rid of infestations, it’s
not impossible. House mice can be sent on their way permanently. Here are tips to help you get rid
of mice and it won’t involve the Pied Piper!
Create an Environment House Mice Will Not Like
First and foremost, you must remove any source of food for the mice. This includes any open boxes or bags of
cereals, pasta, or other grains that these critters like so much. Keep all of these types of food in resealable
plastic containers. Clean the kitchen as soon as you are through cooking or eating. Even just the crumbs from a
sandwich are enough to draw the mice out.
Mice love newspapers, paper bags, and other shreddable things. While it’s not for food, they will use it to
build nests. Unfortunately, with the nests come babies, which will grow to be more mice! Get ride of old papers and
bags and keep your boxes stored off the floor to minimize damage from house mice.
Poisons, Traps, and Sonic Repellents
You’ve got quite a choice in terms of eradicating the problem. However, for many homeowners with children and
pets, poison is simply not an option. Rat poison contains arsenic, which is fatal in very small amounts. If you
feel you must use a poison, keep it up off the floor, out of cupboards, and completely out of reach.
Mouse traps are quite ingenious when you think about it. However, it’s also quite disgusting once the mouse has
been caught. Disposing of the trap with the dead mouse is just downright gross and very unsanitary. There are a few
new versions of the standard mouse trap that are enclosed now, so you don’t have to see the end results.
Sonic repellants can often help not only with house mice, but with other pests as well. The premise behind these
products is that the high frequency sound emitted by these repellents will only be heard by mice and other pests.
When in constant use, it will cause the mice to vacate the property and move on to somewhere much quieter. Many of
these sonic repellents are effective on spiders, roaches, and other pests, as well.
Buy a Cat
For those that don’t have a pet, maybe it’s time to get one. Cats really are one of the greatest mousetraps you
can get. For those that simply can’t stand the thought of a cat in their home, you’ll be happy to know that some
dogs are just as effective. However, if you get a cat that is rather lazy and simply won’t hunt those pesky house
mice, you’re likely to feel as though you have simply added another furry pest to your home!
A Few Final Thoughts
It’s not as difficult as you might think to get rid of house mice
in your home. However, you’ll need to be consistent, especially when it comes to removing their source of food.
Best of luck!
House Mice Tip #1
Be careful when using poison. While it’s usually very effective, it does take a while to work. By the time the
house mice die, you may not be able to locate them. That can make for a very stinky situation.
House Mice Tip #2
If you are concerned about the safety of your children or pets when it comes to mouse traps and poison, you may
want to consider a glue board for areas that are easily accessible. These boards are covered with a super sticky
glue that the mouse cannot get out of once they step on it. It’s non toxic, but obviously not the most humane way
to rid your home of mice.
House Mice Tip #3
Mothballs often work well at repelling mice from a closet or cupboard. The smell can often be a deterrent and
not just for the mice! Many people recommend putting mothballs around the outside of your home to keep the mice out
to begin with.
